GET CONNECTED GOES LIVE-“Expression of Interest applications for Cycle 1 are now closed”
18/01/2010

Dear Member,

SCIE has launched this morning the first phase of the Get Connected Scheme for Social Care which will grant thousands of pounds to successful applicants to increase their ICT capability especially in relation to staff training and connecting service users to the world wide web.

You should all receive a letter telling you about the project but I wanted to alert you early to make sure that members of National Care Association are in a strong and early position when applying.

At this stage you will be asked to register your interest and providing you meet the criteria you will be asked to make a full application later next month.

I am pleased to reproduce below further information taken from the SCIE website.

More information including how to register can be found at www.scie.org.uk/workforce/getconnected/cycle1.asp

Please contact us if you require further information or assistance.

With best wishes.

Sheila Scott

Chief Executive

National Care Association

The following is taken from the SCIE website:

Investment Apply now

General eligibility

All investment bids will need to show how people who use services, family carers and/or staff will benefit from improved access to information and communication technology (ICT). The funding is for capital expenditure that will support adult social care providers and organisations to extend personalisation through enhanced access to ICT.

All bids must cover one or both of these objectives:

The following organisations are not eligible to apply for any funding cycles: statutory organisations, nursing agencies or adult placement schemes.

Applying for cycle 1

Who can apply?

The first cycle of the Investment Project is for private and voluntary sector adult social care providers offering services in England and registered with the Care Quality Commission. The level of funding that you can apply for is dependent on the size of your organisation (see below).

A registered care provider with 250 or more full-time equivalent staff is not eligible for investment in this cycle, but may be eligible in Cycle 3 or Cycle 4.

Micro and small organisations (employing up to 49 full-time equivalent staff) or domiciliary care agencies with 1–3 branches

Medium-sized organisations (employing 50–249 full-time equivalent staff) or domiciliary care agencies with 4–20 branches

How and when to apply for cycle 1

Full details and application forms will be available from 18 January 2010. Applying for the grant is a four-step process.

Step 1: You need to provide basic details to indicate your expression of interest in the fund by 19 February 2010. SCIE will publish the Expression of Interest forms and guidance notes online from 18 January. Care providers registered with the Care Quality Commission will receive this information through the post, and can request in writing an Expression of Interest form if they have absolutely no online access.

Step 2: SCIE and our Get Connected partners will then assess your expression of interest to see if it is appropriate to invite you to go forward to the formal application stage. We will inform you of the outcome and support your online application. If you have absolutely no online access, we send you the necessary forms.

Step 3: You will need to submit your completed application form to SCIE online or by post by 16 April 2010. We will put you in contact with approved ICT suppliers in your region to help you to develop your proposal and provide an estimate of the cost.

Step 4: SCIE and our Get Connected advisory group will assess your application and award grants from May 2010.
